Hillclimbing? It's an Auction Jim - but not as we know it!

Post by kev_the_mole »

Dear All,

I am a Nigerian prince with $25million - OOOPs wrong letter

OK I was given as a present a £150 learn to hillclimb course at Gurston Down for Christmas. So far I've missed both previous dates and now I'm going to miss the last one this season AGAIN because of work. I don't want any money for this because it was a present BUT I will give it to the person who offers the biggest donation to the admirable Mr. Cooper for the running of the forum.

Image

The important bits

1. Date of course : Tuesday 10th July - Sign in at 08.30 at Gurston Down

2. Only road-going cars with MOT or registration document (must show MOT or Reg doc on day)

3. Free lunch.

4. Take your own helmet and clothing that covers arms & legs (they will give you a helmet if you don't have one)

5. Make sure you have enough fuel (none on site)

Guston is very near Salisbury and details can be found on www.gurstondown.org/

I need to let the organisers know the name change by Monday afternoon so if you're interested in a cheap hillclimb course then reply to this topic with your bid. Offer closes Monday 12 noon. Donation from the winner to Mr. Cooper same day please. The winner will also have to let me know his name and address for the regs to be posted.

Cheers,

Ian

You can cut down the volume of your exhaust very very easily with a coke can!

Find an appropriate "slip on" section of exhaust, take it apart, cut the top off the can and the slide it over the male part of the exhaust, stab the can with an appropriate tool so that gasses can pass but it reduces the size of hole the gas passes thru. Next bash the f**k out of the exhaust getting it over the can and pipe (its very easy, the can is wafer thin and makes not alot of difference) and you're all done!

Bikers do it on track days to quieten their bikes for the noise reg's, works a treat!

So there you go Mr. Anderson (slight 'Matrix' link there 8) )

£5 donation (or less even), TWO coke cans as I believe you have two exhaust pipes and a load of fuel gets you a day's hillclimb school!!!

I'll start the bidding at £20
Even though I may be battlig to get the leave

Re the baffle plate - already have them in stainless welded in place - just this engine is really noisy!

At SVA 1st test at 2000rpm we got 102dba
And it had to go to 4000 plus to be tested so was singing at about 105.5 before he said no it's failed.

I tried the coke can but it actually managed to purn it and plast it out the tailpipe before the retest hence the welded bits!

But then a full cross over and 9 inch silencer boxes will be loud anyway

Cheers

Ian,

CONGRATULATIONS you are the winner and only bidder.

Email me with your home address to IOsborne@transdev.co.uk

Suggest you wait to see if you can get the leave before coughing up the donation to Tony then nobody loses.

I'll get my name changed for yours this afternoon and confirm. I'll also post you the set of regs and maps that I have but I'll need your adress bluddy quick.

Cheers

Ian

You can do it a lot easier than that and with only one can. Jamb it under the throttle peddle

www.metcheck.com says "possible showers" but I think they all make it up anyway.

Better take the wellies and then the sun will shine all day :D :D :D

and take your camera because we will want lots of pictures.

Wellies?

I thought crampons, pitons, aribeners and a good stout rope was what was needed for hillclimbing!

I think I'll be trying to get some weatherproofing on the car to stop the water before the event - the only time I had the car out in the bad wet before and I hit a flow across the A3 there were 2 jets of water heading skywards around the fuel filler caps - closely followed thereafter by a tidle wave over my feet and legs

Ir does anyne have a direct line number for him upstairs - I believe he can arrange the sun!

So Yes I'll take piccies and presumably need a video mount

Many thanks for the auction - now time to grovel to the boss!

Ok went there done hat and got a box of neutrals!

Fantastic day and a big Thank you to Mr Mole for organising the "auction"
You guys do not know what you missed.

I managed to get a bit of video footage on a small camera that is not too bad but the second run on camera is the shite one when the gear linkage decided not to work. And also a shot of the speedo under acceleration in 4 th gear on the way home (Stuck in 4th as I could not find 5th

I would think noting too serious - probably the bit that connects to the selector on the R21 gearbox managing to slip so not giving full movement to the input shaft in the gearbox

Th 40 was by far the loudest there andI got loads of comments about how good she sounds on full chat.

The road seemed extremely slippery - first run and spun in 1st 2nd and 3rd - about 85mph before braking

Cheers

Really hot and sweaty - I need to get some insulation in the car!
