Oil breather (?) on RHS of the crankcase......

Just a brief question today :lol:

The pipe that exits from the RHS of the crankcase (when the engine is viewed from the front) just above the exhaust manifold and runs till it's just about level with the rocker cover - what is this, an oil overflow/breather vent?

Is it supposed to be attatched to a vent system or is it just exposed to atmosphere?

I'd stick up a photo of it but I don't have one - for reference it exits directly underneath the flexible hosing on a Flapper EFi system :)

I haven't discounted it, being that my engine's had all kinds of alterations to fit the bay - but currently my dipstick (working) resides in the front of the bay.....However, putting a dipstick under the hose seems a bit odd...

I have no standard alternative to compare it to and my SD1 workshop manual is in the garage :lol:

Exactly, dipstick hose under the pipe would be a nuisance which is why it has been moved. Just block the hole up.

Which way round is your sump? Is it normal, or is the big bit at the front?

Big bit at the front! I was aware of it being hacked about and nonstandard but not to what extent.

This be it, that's the subframe crossmember just behind it. Dipstick entry is the painted black tube in the top left there.
