New Rover 4.2 V8 tall engine.

Post by jenand40 »

About 8 years ago I bought a new Rover 4.2 V8 tall engine.
Sad to say it has been stood untouched, turned occasionally, ever since.
If/when I use it what should I do to it?
My thoughts were to;
1. Remove the sump and crank bearing caps and lubricate with Graphogen.
2. Remove the valley gasket and lubricate the camshaft with Graphogen.
Anything else?
Can I reuse the crank bearing cap bolts?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Andy.

I think I'd just remove the distributor (if it has one!), and spin the oil pump to circulate the oil plenty.

Chris.

Chris, should have said, the engine is a serpentine type.

Take all the plugs out

Spin it over for a while and get the oil pressure up.

Then keep spinning it until you get oil up at the rockers,

Refit plugs and start it

Probably be more gentle than even new car engine gets
