Advice/ help please

[V8classic]

Hi there please could someone try and help me im a little new to all this and only have a basic understanding on engines. I am currently restoring a range rover classic with a 3.5 sd1 v8 in it. I have removed the heads and want to know the basic but necessary checks. I dont want to spend loads of money on a full rebuild i just want to be able to clean it up so it runs. Was hoping to leave all the bottom end in tact but am open to suggestions. Cheers in advance.
