Does This Piston look ok

on a whim i bought some high comp pistons off ebay on the plan of eventually fitting them to one of my engines as iv read the get better mpg, got them through and one had a bit of damage

is this ok or unusable

Hi
it is not ideal, however if the top ring is not pinched then they should be OK, make sure ring gap is on the other side of the piston and I would flatten the area with a fine file.

Like Mike says, dress it with a fine file to smooth off the roughness and blend the edges in and it should be OK as long as you aren't going to thrash the nuts off it.
Check the ring groove for size with a vernier for about a 1/8 inch either side of the damaged part and if it's not squashed in you should be good to go.
