Spark plugs please help

Post by kiwicar »

As it says above I need help as this is really doing my poor little brain no good at all.
I want a couple of sets of spark plugs for my chevy engine, I would like NGKs as they are meant to be the easiest to check for heat range once in the engine so here is the "how to decode an NGK spark plug number chart
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/s ... berkey.pdf
as you will see it has 2 sets of possable codes for the part number and in some cases multiple tables to make up that part number so how do I get to what I want?
I want a
14mm thread
.75" reach
narrow body, 5/8 hex
resistor plug
heat range 4,5 and 6 (that is the easy bit)
projecting electrode
platinum electrode would be good but a bog stock whatever will do if they are expensive
Gasket seat.
From the Jegs website I found the above spec with the part number 739- FR4GP now the 739 could be a Jegs part number but I am not sure but either wat NGK over here do not recognise it as a part number (though I think it sort of checks out against the chart). . . so please can someone help me here and come up with a part number to match the plug spec.
The part number FR4GP works for US ebay and gives me the plug I want, however I would like to get them from the UK as it is expensive and I would potential need to hold a lot of them in reserve If I have to import them every time.
Many thanks
Mike

Hi Mike, NGK are in Hemel and I have always found the technical dept very helpful. Maybe worth a quick call

This looks like what you need Mike !

Part no 6130 = BCPR5ES

Have a look on the chart to see if this is ok?

Hi Perry
yes that looks spot on, the one I found earlier and sent you the part number for was the platinum electrode version (not something I need) but I found that under the US part number as well and Jay couldn't find that one over here, however tha would be ideal, can Jay get that one?
best regards

Hi Mike,

Looks like a common plug used in Peugeot's, Citroen's, Renaults, Skoda.

If Jay cannot get one about £2.50 on ebay or motor factor like motor parts direct or euro car parts might have them.

knock the S off the end of that part number and you will get a nice V groove 8-) or use Denso plugs and get it standard, I wont use anything other than NGK or Denso plugs ever, I have fitted thousands of NGK plugs over the years and only had 2 go duff in over 28 of those even when I worked at a Honda dealer this was the OE manufacturer back then on Honda :D

Hi Simon
I want NGK as they are meant to be the easiest ones to check the heat range on with Methanol.
What does a V grove do for me? does it make any difference that I will be running methanol and wasted spark? sorry for the basic questions but I really know very little about spark plugs, (Perry can vouch for this) it has taken a whole season to work out that the only things I had right about the last ones was the thread diameter, that they were resistive and the heat range (and that is only sort of)!
Best regards

I'll get Jay to see how much a box of 10 will be on his account Mike.
