Bike carbs?

Anyone running bike carbs on their V8?

I saw a comp racer in LRO with some that looked cool

ATM I have the standard Rover 14 ECU on it. I have fitted a trigger wheel and 2 Ford coil packs with EDIS.

I have an MS2 spare which I believe is overkill for the RV8 but also have 2 sets of ZX9R carbs lying in the cupboard..

Looking at the EFI inlet it looks dead easy to knock a manifold up from the base plate with the trumpets removed.

Any thoughts on all this peeps?

I have seen the manifolds on eBay that cost about a grand and you have to send them your own carbs to balance and jet for the engine.
I drove a nova with bike carbs on it and I couldn't feel a difference in any power gains

It has been done with varying success a few times. I think the member on here Topcat did it but sold it all not long after getting it going. Maybe have a search and see if you can find his threads on it. I did a 4 banger years ago on bike smoothbores for a rally car. They were an utter pain to get setup and never worked any better or even as good as the 40's that went on after.

Never seen it done with a modified FI manifold mind you, don't know if it is a good idea or not.

Personally I would say you would be better off finding some bike throttle bodies and using that MS2. Easier to get the fueling right and your not going to have to faf about with jets, emulsion tubes along with CV slides.

Why do you think an MS2 overkill? For a start it will drive an RV8 fast idle stepper motor as standard.

Over on the LR4x4 MS forum they say a MS1 is better..

Will I be OK with the MS2 or carbs?

Not after any more horses just want a smooth reliable V8.

I wasn't aware of the MS1 being able to do anything the MS2 can't. The MS2, however, can do more than the MS1.

No MegaSquirt is easy to set up. Or rather it is easy enough to do once you have learned up on it. Which is the difficult - or rather time consuming - bit.

Not had anything to do with LPG so I'll leave that bit for others.

I used the MS2 I have on a Ford ST170 I had in my last kit. It was a nightmare to get running and after a while I switched it out for a Omex, that worked straight out the box and it was easier to find a RR to get it tuned here in the North East.
