hi guys, i would like to buy one of those phenolic spacers for my webber 500 on the rv8.

cheers, real steel look like a good price -
so they are listed as Holley? so webber is the same fit?
should i go for the open hole or the one with 4 holes?
would i be right in thinking that if y ou put the one with the 4 holes, then its technically increasing intake length and therefore bottom end torque?

I've made both the open square one and the closed 4 hole one and i found the 4 hole one gave a better throttle response and seemingly better low down torque.
If your manifold entry is split (dual plane) then you should use the 4 hole version - the big open one is for the victor jr type manifolds. I think the poor response is due to the low resulting air speed.

I have messed about with these carbs a fair amount, like Eliot I also have found the same throttle response difference between the open and 4 hole designs. In theory the open type should give you a bit more top end but I guess that will be if your carb is on the smallish side for you engine. (Which is not the case for the 500 carb and most RV8 lumps)
Personally I don't think that the Real Steel spacers are all that great, they are a sandwich of gaskets and ali plates, the ali plates will conduct the heat to the carb which is not really much good.
As I have a NOS plate and a wedge plate I was running out of bonnet clearance so I just used 4 or 5 gaskets to create a heat barrier between my carb and manifold. I made extra long studs using imperial threaded bolts that fit the manifold, unlike the standard studs mine now have the same thread pitch at both ends, they seem to work well enough.
