My littel Pug 106 diesel blew itself apart the other day in spectacular style, so I thought I'd best get on the case and start looking for a new car. I've kept looking for the same two cars as I did last year, TDCi Fiesta (circa 2004) or a 200TDi landy. The insurance quotes I've been getting are literally mental.
I'm 32yrs old and have 6yrs NCB, my insurance has NEVER gone down despite accruing NCB etc. I live in Liverpool (yes, I know lol!) and my parents live in Sheffield, so I always get a quote for sheffield just to see the differences, and for reference I'm using moneysupermarket.
Fiesta 1.4TDCI
2011: Sheffield = £430, Liverpool = £620, not a bad difference really.
2012: Sheffield = £413, Liverpool = £898 ........ WTF?!?!
Land Rover 88 (classic)
2012: Sheffield = £145, Liverpool = £505 BOTH with Lancaster Insurance who are normally very good, even in the northwest.
Anyone else getting silly hikes to their quotes or is it just my bad luck in the northwest? People say I should move, well I've been wanting to for 3yrs but when your house is in negative equity it's kinda hard to! I think a lot of this has to do with the riots last year, down my road they burnt out at least 10 cars over the course of 4 days ...
Added to the fact that it's 6points/£200 for driving without insurance, I could technically get caught several times a year and it still be cheaper than my insurance premiums! Gah!

Had similar issues with my insurance..... live in a prety quiet area (Milford Haven west Wales) got the isurance through on the RX7 twin turbo (about 330bhp with all mods declaired from aftermarket wheels, brakes throught ot one off lights) got fully comp for 450..... now my daily is a Mk2 MR2, std NA car just wheels filter and exhaust (about 160bhp at best) £600!!!! managed to get it down to 350 in the end, but come on!!!

I know, must be the riots etc ;-(
But chek this out, I used to have a Mk1 MR2 a couple of years back, was about £800 as it was heavily modified, now a standard Mk1 MR2 is about £1200 for me!
What makes it even worse, a standard MGB GT is £666 .... but a Triumph GT6 is £314?! Mental!

That is a pretty obvious one. . . You would have to be clinically insane to drive a GT6 over 30mph so owning one you are either a very safe slow driver of sectioned under the mental health act and not allowed to drive . . . obviously a much lower risk than a V8 MGB
Best regards
Mike

hahahaha!! My mate owns a really really nice Mk3 GT6 that he's had for years, spent a fortune on, and he still says it's 'entertaining' to drive even in the dry lol! He doesn't even bother taking it out in damp never mind wet!kiwicar wrote:"a standard MGB GT is £666 .... but a Triumph GT6 is £314?! Mental!"

Well since my MGB GT is currently engine-less, I can't put it back on the road quickly so I am considering a host of classics as a semi-daily driver (I usually get the train to work but would like the option of driving, because I miss having a car!). I am considering, despite the heresy of it all, slinging in a 1.9TD Pug engine in the MGB ... already bought the LDV box and engine mounts I just need to see if the exhaust manifold/turbo clears the steering column as it should be a relatively simple 3 wires to get the engine running. But that's a project for later this year. I hope I won't get expelled from the V8 forum for such plans!!

Hi
Just to celebrate their recent victory at Le mans why not stick an Audi turbo diesel V8 tin the MGB now that should get the MGCC bunch worked up into a state! ! !
On a more sensible note the Rover 2 litre twin cam unit out of the 600 and other cars is meant to be really nice in an MGB.

Yeah I've seen one or two with the rover 200 engine in. But I've thought about this, and after donig a bit of research I'm quite keen on the idea of a turbo derv! Added to the fact I got the gerabox, engine mounts, remote and a few other bits for less than a ton I thought it wasn't a bad deal!!
Altho having seen someone shoehorn an Audi S8 V8 quad cam into the back of a Mk1 MR2, I guess anything is possible!
