Due to not being able to get my SD1 VDP EFi to start, I have tried again, however I thought I would treat it to a dizzy cap and rotor arm.
The original lucas arm was a swine to get off but came off eventaully - it had rusted to the shaft.
However I cannot get the new cap to fit over the arm - is there a possibility I could have pulled the shaft out?
Distributor damaged?

Yes, I had the same problem on my Range Rover, and I did the same to my Rover Vitesse being careful
But check you have the correct rotor arm first (Rover P6 rotors are taller)
You can put it all back, bit the plastic "grommet" that holds the inner and outer shaft is weak and it can happen again
See my threat for a permanent fix........ rushes off to find it
Here it is
