rv8 to lt77 serious noise when clutch pressed (2Wd)

Post by speedtripledan »

Has anyone encountered this problem? when i push the clutch pedal occasionally i get a horrible screeching sound it used to only happen when i was at very low speed or stationary i.e parking etc but now between gear changes as well

The gearbox is recon the clutch and release bearing are also new and it did it before these were changed,

my only thought is the spigot bearing in the crank? its the only moving part that hasn,t been changed on the transmission side..

Any ideas ???

How much end float do you have in the crank?

Get someone to press the clutch in when its idling and have a look at the crank pulley to see if you can see it moving forward and back.

Also is there any lubricant on the spigot bearing?

Is there any chance that there isn't a spigot bearing in there (if the crank came from an auto car for example)?

The auto spigot bearings are a lot bigger than the LT77 ones so the front end of the input shaft would be unsupported but I doubt it would be noisy.
It may have had a new spigot bearing at some time but it's been fitted without checking the running clearance. It could also be the release bearing seizing.

problem solved, it was the spigot bush it was worn by a good 2mm and oval.
