Ignition Leads and resistors

Post by nokia_aid »

ok whats the best setup if im not worried about radio interference, iv bought some non resister plug and have some ngk ignition wires coming that i have the option to take out the resisters, do i take them out.

also read that copper core wires are very good.

whats the best way to go as some people say take all the resisters out and others dont

It's a total fallacy that replacing resistors with copper gives a better spark. Like all electronics, if something is designed properly to work with a particular resistance, altering that won't improve anything.

A prime example is EDIS. If you replace the resistor plug leads with copper and don't use resistive plugs, you'll likely get miss-firing.

The original suppressor leads were made from carbon impregnated string. This didn't last for ever. Decent modern leads use conductive plastic which has a very good life.

As regards interference, you may not be worried about your radio or whatever, but spark generated interference could cause problems with other car electronics like the ECU. And that's before you think about causing interference to the radios etc of others.
