350 cast head porting

Hi guys, just a quick one, I've just started to port the heads for my Chevy, nowhere is just one question..... In the inlet ports there the intake manifold sits there is a bulge basically to allow the heads to be threaded for the rocker covers, can I take these right back to have an even shape on the runner is shall I just clean up the casting and leave plenty of meat there??

Also how much would you remove in the valve area as I know this is the point where the most gains are had!!
