Rover V8 Su Carbs RPM Slow To Drop

Just fitted my new engine into the capri got it all up and running but when i rev it the rpm doesnt drop very fast, im assuming this is something wrong with the su carbs, is this something i can adjust

That sounds like the classic poppet valve problem. They are spring loaded valves in the butterflies which open if you snap the throttle closed to help with emissions. But frequently open too easily. Most just solder them closed.

Or maybe a small vacuum leak on a gasket ?

i had a spare inlet manifold with recond carbs on so i just fitted that, il get it running tommorrow and hopefully the problem will be fixed, should have done it before i fitted the engine really but was being lazy
