Megasquirt.. what would i keep and throw away ??

Post by V8 Mini »

as my EFI is playing up, i was thinking maybe its time i finally went for a Megasquirt ECU.
when going this route, what items would i have to keep from my flapper system, and what will be going in the bin (or Ebay)

the two items i know would go are the ECU and Flapper AFM.
do i need to keep the resister pack or will that go also?

Si

you need to keep the resistor pack as the flapper system is low impedance injectors. You can run a flyback circuit and pwm but it all gets a bit complicated and there are mixed results. Better still get a hotwire manifold and injectors that way you have access to hundreds of after market injectors at a lot better prices and no resistor packs needed.

MS can drive low and high impedance injectors.

To feed a fuel only MS you will need the throttle pot, a signal from the dizzy, and a connection for the map tube. A wide band lambda is very highly recommended.

On your current setup you won't need the ecu, flapper, or resistor pack.

I think that's all. I agree with Katanaman, the later fuel rail gives you access to loads more injectors, often on Fleabay for peanuts. I'm not sure whether you need the inlet manifold to go with the later fuel rail, or if it will fit on the SD1 manifold.

ps, I realy realy recommend a wide band lambda.
