Fuel pipes and hoses...

Post by volospian »

I'm looking at the fuel lines for the Cobra, and I'm happy that AN-6 would be enough for the engine (around 310hp) however, I just need a sanity check on the hoses, etc.

The fuel tank has 10mm OD pipe outlets. Am I right in thinking that AN-6 hose has an ID of 3/8", which equates to 0.375" which in turn converts to about 9.53mm? So I should be just about right squeezing AN-6 hose onto my 10mm outlet pipes?

Cheers,
Rich.

Not sure on the pipe sizes, I think my push-on connections at the tank are 8mm for the AN6 lines I have.

But, do you know the power limitations of AN6 lines? As in, how much bhp would a single AN6 line support, with a decent Sytec pump behind it? Reason I ask I'm thinking of putting my fuel system in the skyline now and keeping the MGB tank.
RIP MGB V8 .... served me well as a learning curve.

R32 Skyline V8 .... this one is gonna be a monster!

AN-6 looks a little small to fit over these 10mm outlets... It slides easily over some 8mm copper pipe, so it's a bit larger than that, but I'm not sure how much "stretch" there will be... may have to get a short AN-8 run from the tank to the first filter, and maybe connect a piece of -8 to the end of the return to upsize it to the tank inlet (bought a load of dual pipe billet "clips" and plenty of -6 pipe to keep it neat, so I don't want a full -8 return line all the way from the engine bay to the tank or I'll have to throw the billet clips and have staggered different size p clips or something...)

I have no idea about HP. By the look of it there are several people running over 500bhp on -6 lines. I'm only looking at a max of about 350, so -6 should be plenty for me.

Hi Rich
I have just measured some Earls -6 hose and it comes out at 8.3mm id
Now you will be able to get a bit of stretch into that but whether it will go out to 10mm is questionable.
I can cut you a small section and send it to you if that will help?
-8 I think will be way to big and you will need a reducer on the tank to drop down to the right size.

Does this help at all?

cheers

Cheers for the offer, but I needed to make a decision as it was holding up the build trying to find out, so I bit the bullet a week ago and ordered the stuff.

I'm not sure how I'm going to make it all work in and out of the tank at the moment, but I can at least start fitting the system from the first filter through to the regulator/rails and I'll worry about the lines from the tank to the filter and return line to tank later.

Rich.

Hot water and fairy dishwasher fluid softens the end of the hose then you should be able to force it over (Foiry acts as a lubricant.

#6 line will flow easily enough for any Rover V8, it will support over 7 gallons a minute fuel flow
