Clutch

Post by BISH V8 »

Be interested in some opinions with regards max power on a Rover V8 LT77 1" X 23 Spline (standard)clutch before clutch may feel like its slipping when your trying to put all power (300bhps) through it instantly, seems to happen mostly in third gear ,have noticed it at Silverstone straights first but after a few laps it doesn't seem to be there so I thought maybe the tyres were cold or the track moist. Noticed it this weekend again at Combe, again thought tyres are cold or moist track, I'm running a quaiff in an mgb v8 with a lightened flywheel on a standard LT77. Engine comes out this winter for fitting of the r380 gearbox, also fitting the Huffaker manifold as I've finally got the remote housing for it..
Just wondering if a stronger clutch would be the answer..

Hi
I think you could do with a stronger clutch probably with a harder friction material more suited for track use.
best regards

I ran a bog stock Borg and Beck friction plate along with a pressure plate that I bought from RPI, they gave me some gumph on it being from a TVR which I believed that the time. (I was young and stupid!). Anyway my 4.6 puts out about 300 BHP and I run a 100 BHP NOS shot on top. The clutch did not slip but I did find that I had broken some of the shock asorbing springs. I never managed to find out what the pressure plate was from, it was also Borg and Beck with a blob of red paint on it.

I now run a puck style plate plate along with a pressure plate supplied by Helix motor sport, it does not slip but is a little grabby at low speed. I also noticed that the centre boss of the friction plate is 30mm tall which gives 10mm more spline engagement over the standard Borg and Beck plate.
