MS or Mj is the way forward, but in the mean time if you want to wade with the standard dizzy, connect a £5 compressor to the body. It's steam condensing in the cap rather than leads that stop them (unless your leads are really bad).
And I'm firm in my opinion that if I go electronic control on the spark, I might as well ditch the carbs as well. If you're doing mileage in a heavy truck you might re-coup the outlay? (I tend to spend more on parts than fuel though

Not convinced MJ is worth the saving over MS. MS is far more common and available easily used. It can be used ignition only with the option to go injection too at a later date. Other thing is some versions of MS allow fully sequential.teamidris wrote:I've read it again and its already hot-wire![]()
Megajolt then. At least if it goes wrong you can get advice

Hi
from what I have learnt about MS I would go MJ first, if you really want just sparks it saves you having to hunt around of loads of menus that are not relevent to just ignition looking for that one feature you need that has been put in the wrong place, if it is just sparks then use MJ and keep it simple. Looking back I wish I had done this, I could have upgraded to MS when I was actually going to use the logging and extra features and probably sold the MJ when the time came. I am actually considering going MJ over the winter and using electronics hardware and relays to get the control and delays I need for the MFI launch control.
Best regards
Mike

poppet valves rule!
Tuner Studio - the MS software - makes it pretty clear what applies to ignition and what to fuelling. Even for the likes of me.
I've nothing against MJ. But any of the Lucas injection systems can be greatly improved by changing to MS - so why not allow for this at a later date? Because if you don't you'll regret it at some point.

I've was thinking about what I wrote this morning, before I went to work and my mind got diverted!
Personally I'd go MS, because I have none of it, just points and SU's. But if I had functional injection I'd go MJ only? But then again, I was reading about a bloke who had trouble with his rangy. He puts MS on it, and hey presto, it logs an intermittent sensor fault. That has to be worth having, as one day, it's going to have some sensor input fail on any system !
But whichever is the choice, getting something with support has to be the way forward?
I have to admit I had considered the standard dizzy with 4 optic sensors to run four coil packs for water resistance. It appeals to my 'clunky' half. But going all out on JS appeals to my mechatronics side and seeing exactly what is going on. It's an interest thread for me, and I still don't know which way I'd bounce

No reason why a trigger wheel/sensor won't be waterproof. The actual ECU can go where the water won't reach, or in a waterproof box. And it's all readily available, unlike playing around with 4 sensors in a dizzy.
Snag with both the hotwire and even more the flapper system is they are getting on a bit. And both rather crude by today's standards. Just think how PCs have changed since the '80s.
MS has lots of excellent support. I dunno MJ - but expect it is ok too. Thing with MS is it was designed from the start as a DIY system, so there is no keeping secrets about it - like you might find with some commercial only products.
