EDIS 8

Post by The Original Tom »

Anyone tried this on a rover V8?
I think my dizzy might be up the pooper (It runs out of power at the top end - suspected dodgy springs or holed vacuum unit...), and from what I can see an EDIS8 module, wiring and 2 coil-packs are cheaper than even a recon RV8 dizzy, and must be more accurate?!

What about a controller? Do I need something like Megajolt Lite Jr?

I'm not interested in using Megasquirt either - It's very expensive, and I have no need for its fuelling adjustment qualities.

Most importantly - how to the VR sensors take to water? I mean there's no problem to put the module in the cab or a sealed box, and I can seal the coil packs too, but if the VR sensor will pack up if I submerge it then it's a bit of a non-starter...

Cheers all...

VR is a sealed unit. So assuming you use the proper bosch connectors, they will be water proof. Pretty much the same goes for the edis and coil packs - its all down to the standard of your wiring.

My only concern with the VR sensor was mud getting trapped between it and the teeth - I was going to use a thick solid wheel (as opposed to the thin ford oem plate one i using) with a scraper just before the sensor to catch any major blobs of mud etc - but I didn't bother in the end as i dont do much offroading now.

Bill Shurvinton may offer some insight as hes helped several 4x4 out with edis setups.

Hi, yes i'm running EDIS8 on my 3.5 (landrover)

There are plenty of souces of EDIS bits & trigger wheels.
On its own the EDIS 8 will get you running in fixed 10BTDC limp mode, you will then need MJ lite jnr or Megasquirt to give you the advance.

( I actually have an unused MJ lite JR for sale, as i went the whole way & fitted MS when i converted to Injection.

EDIS8 - 'themidwestmustang' on ebay
coil packs - scrappy (Oriion, Focus ztec, some escorts)
trigger wheels - www.triggerwheels.com

I reside on www.LR4x4.com. have a search there, a few have done it and there is some good info.[/img]

Edis 8 RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You won't look back i promise! I got mine from a chap near me who showed me a video of some off roaders using it. One was under water. The only part of the car that wasn't under was the snorkel and the top left corner of the screen and it was still running fine! The driver had to bale but only because he would've drowned! That isn't an exageration!

Both the vr sensor and edis unit are completely waterproof. The edis circuitry is costed with about 5mm of some jelly like substance which takes car of that and if you take some car with the connectors and some silicone then they'll be 100% waterproof too.

Go for it!
V8'less but a fountain of dorky knowledge ref v8's!

Ive got a picture somewhere of a customer in his Landrover in water so deep that he had the ECU held up in his hands to stop it getting wet, and the engine was still running, he was pretty happy with it as the car is a recovery vehicle for 4x4's that get stuck doing events

I assume that Megajolt is OK on an EFI system?

Who sells it? I have colleagues who regularly come over from the U.S. so that may be a possibility as well.

MJ works well with EFI. You have to do a couple of tricks to drive a flapper, but it has been odone successfully on a number of occasions and the LR4x4 forums have people running it at at the moment in severe off road applications.
