Disco 2 v8 causing more problems!

Post by russ1 »

Good evening,

Bit of back ground, I rebuild the v8 thor lump using 4.6 crank and rods 4.0 pistons, torque max cam, all valve / tappets set etc

The disco has never seemed to run right even before the rebuild I have changed maf sensor ( 6 in 8 years ) using gen sensors, new O2 sensors but......

When diving at low revs <3k it feels like something is holding the engine back, when it gets above 3k it's like someone throws a switch and it takes off, no matter what I do I can find what the problem is,

I have had to unplug the 02 sensors as it was just backfiring and really wouldn't run at all, so unplugged them and reset adaptive values and now I have the other problem

Wish I could change management but it controls so many other things, gearbox, slabs etc.

Any one and ideas? Hate the bloody thing ATM,

If it makes any difference it also runs on LPG.

Thanks
Si

Can you be sure that the valve timing is right?

Chris.

It's on both LPG and petrol, worse on LPG but guess that's just because it copy's the petrol,

Valve timing am almost 100% certain it's spot on, but its something else I am going to check, same with compression, will check them ASAP,

Any other ideas,

Thanks
Si.
