have you solved this yet?
some things sound simular to what i've been trying to sort out on my Mini.
it wouldnt start on friday, so i left it to sort out today, and first thing i found was all cylinders where full of fuel, so i cranked it over without plugs to pump it out (goes quite far
almost got the neighbours car across the road). left it to dry out whilst checking injection system out. i did notice some injectors were not closing properly, so fitted a spare set i had of ebay a while back, that had been ultasonicly cleaned (supposidly).
all seemed ok, and it started, ran a bit rougth, after a bit it died and wouldnt start again. injectors appered to all be open again, plugs were quite wet. i went over this a few times, problem would seem to go away, but would soon return.
before packing up, last try, almost starts then nothing. as i turn the ignition on i notice all injectors click (open?) and also click again when ignition is turned off (closed?). plus i also noticed the resistor pack was quite hot.
iv'e check the resistor pack and injector cuircuits and all reads ok.
any ideas?
maybe it time i got that mega squirt

I have just fitted an engine with flapper to my LR. The chap I bought it from said that it ran like a dog on petrol but fine on LPG. When I investigated, the oil seemed very thin and on the basis it was a recon. engine, there was a lot of soot indicating it was overfuelling.
All I have done is install it, rebuild the efi loom and clean connectors. The loom wires get very hard by the plugs (under the rubber boots), the insulation cracks off and wires touch. I was amazed at how many were bad.
Anyhow, the long and short is it is now running very smoothly. Maybe worth a good look at the temp sensor (white plug) which, if shorting would cause overfuelling.
Good luck.

You can get all the bits (if some of your plugs etc. are brittle/broken) from Vehicle Wiring Products. You may be able to get away with shrink tubing on some of the wires, but others just cut and resolder or put a new connector on. If like mine, you will find it is the pvc sleeve and wiring within a couple of inches of the plugs that have gone hard.
It took about a day and it is worth spending the time and doing a good job.
Judging by the number of times these symptoms crop up, I am fairly confident that it will remove at least some of your issues.
