Twin su carbs.. No choke???

Post by mcmental »

Hi there on my su carbs (with separate float bowls that twist round) there's no choke lever that I can run a cable to, has anyone made something up to be able to use a cable? When cars cold I have to give them both a few pumps before I can press the start button and its a bit of a pain in ass.

Cheers

Chris

Sounds like they came from an early car with an AED - a separate starting carb. Most P5Bs used this. There were conversion kits to manual choke which still sometimes appear on Ebay or change the carbs to the same model with manual choke.

BTW, pumping the throttle shouldn't make a difference as there is no accelerator pump on SUs.

Probably easier to get a pair of carbs with a choke mechanism, e.g. off a Range Rover.

Chris.

when I had the carbs running there were two small plastic wedges that were used as a choke, these were then removed when it got going. Crap set up I know, but worked. Only just remembered after reading this thread!
