Have a read this.
V8 developments 5.5litre will give 397hp with plenum. No way i say. I cant find that topic when Rob say that their 5.5litre race engine give +430hp, similar like topspark engine, but full race mode.
John Eales send me his 5.3litre race engine dyno sheet couple of year go. 417hp/540Nm.. Mechanical 256cam, 12.5CR, 50mm crossover throttle bodies, dry sump etc.
So is Eales and V8 developments dyno´s little hopefull?
Those rover 180cfm flow figures dosen´t mean anythink, if you have long stroke engine like 5.2-5.5litre it can theoritically suck more air that those head can ever flow. Similar engine is Mopar engine, small valves/ports, but they are quite fast...
Ps: just send e-mail to Eales, he has got 2 pair of Merlin´s ported and STD heads. Ported and flowed 1550£ + vat. My friend want to buy STD set.

Hi
"John Eales send me his 5.3litre race engine dyno sheet couple of year go. 417hp/540Nm.. Mechanical 256cam, 12.5CR, 50mm crossover throttle bodies, dry sump etc."
Yup that is basically what I said, race engine with a long period cam and 1500 rpm powerband, thanks for confirming not really a comparison though is it?
Not sure what you are trying to say here,
"if you have long stroke engine like 5.2-5.5litre it can theoritically suck more air that those head can ever flow" as piston speed is the determining factor on how fast you can rev an engine and therefor ultimatly maximum peak flow.
The Chryslar small block (340) is a slightly bigger bore than the 350 chevy and is a shorter stroke, that and the shaft mounted rockers is why it tunes well, because you can rev it. Even the 318 is relativly big bore and short stroke it is certainly very different to a long stroke Rover.
And yes even allowing for it being what is basically a full race engine as it is I think that the figures given are pretty optomistic for a set of ported rover heads. Formula 3 engines prove you can get good power Numbers from a restricted intake flow, but you would never be able to drive an F3 engine on the road.
Best regards
Mike
Just for referance I am putting a 256 263 mechanical roller cam in my 6.6 litre chevy drag engine running 11.6:1 and it will be on a wider LSA than that one in John Ealses engine, don't pretend that that 5.3 litre rover is anything but a full race engine.

poppet valves rule!
The Buick 300 heads on my 4.6 SD1 were modified by (Holden/Ford V8) head guru Eddy Woods at the Head Stud Development Co in Melbourne, and they were originally destined for a 5.0 litre Leyland P76 motor that went into an extensively lightened LC Holden Torana drag car.
They flow 191 cfm at 550 thou (1.75 inlet). Standard P76 was about 132 cfm at the same lift I think (or was that Rover heads?).
The inlet ports on the Buick heads were huge compared to the Leyland head, so much higher that the Edelbrock Performer manifold had to have the roof of its port flanges welded to extend them upwards, then reshaped to match the cylinder head ports.

Chat with John Eales today.
Copy wiht my e-mail when i order some parts.
The flow figures for the merlin heads is better than std rover heads and the ported set is better than ported rover heads except for the big valve rover heads.
I have run the heads and the results are ok but I have had problems with valve springs and pushrods!
I will not run them on any of my engines!.
next message:
The heads are as delivered from Real Steel. To get them down to 25 cc would need 0.048” machining from them.
I do not have any graphed results from the dyno tests.
They were run on a 5.2 liter engine with 218 camsgaft and xover injection and gave around 362 bhp
The same engine with cnc big valve heads gave 368 bhp
He has got STD and ported merlin heads in stock, My friend want to buy STD set, so we order those. He has still got those ported merlins, and i´m not sure are those figures STD or ported merlin figures? He didin´t tell me that when i ask it couple of times..
So 6hp more with rover´s and price is slightly higher VS merlin´s..

Just re-reading this, seems to be so little figures on any of the aftermarket heads ! John Eales race motor making 417bhp, with his experience that doesn't sound that good to me !
My supercharged 5.0L rv8 was put on Kenny Colemans dyno a few years ago and made 419bhp ! The heads are nothing radical, stage 3 I would say,
Ok my volumetric efficiency is a lot higher then Johns, but with "better" heads, how much more power could I make ?
Mines not a race motor,it's a street driven car,is little thirsty,my best is 18 mpg.

Supercharged wild cat engine. 0.7bar boost and only 453bhp..

It dosen´t sound that good to me like you say..
Costello/wild cat 5.0 engine.
http://www.mgcostello.com/index_files/C ... timate.htm
Dynamometer tested at an effortless 333bhp and 400Nm torque @ 5750 rpm with Crane M248 cam.. I think this cam is 310Deg and 0.533lift.. If this is a RWHP, engine give approx 380hp. if not, it´s totally failed..
I know this is an pissing off, but where do you need boost if you get same bhp readings with N/A wild cat engine.. (you would not get without spending time to porting heads, and run some silly race cam i say.)
John Eales new record is 422hp/556Nm with his CNC heads. I dont undesrtand how you can get more if those heads are resistive/hitting wall, of course, bigger bottom end give slightly extra. But without welding, offset valves, some silly +13Cr it is quite hard..
My home made 5.2litre is emission legal street engine, it will push 393hp.. Just bought more radical cam and hope slightly more hp..
5.3litre rover engine. 395hp.. this will beat ACR 5.0 wild cat engine also.

If you have got a proven dyno results of aftermarket heads, please send them to us.. Not some rumour readings..

Ask TRS here in Adelaide who allegedly 'commissioned' TA performance to create these heads based on their successful Buick V6 design.
TRS used to race a 5.0 litre TR8 with full race spec Wildcat heads that they claimed made 550bhp. They now race an ex-UK TVR Tuscan series car which they completely rebuilt and fitted with a 5.5 engine fitted with new 'race spec' TA heads which they claim is putting out over 600 bhp.
You need to keep in mind that TRS are the Aussie distributor for TA heads and the local South Australian TVR agent and most things Rover V8 performance related....
Having said that, their racing Tuscan sure does give the Porsches, Corvettes, Viper boys a good run for their money on the track .

Is it this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eezdaGrxhLo
I don´t see dynograph/readings off monitor....
I don´t understand, if John Eales get only 460hp with TA heads, so how those NZ guys get 515hp with wild cat heads..? There is some cross-purpose somewhere..
Wild cat carb engine and made again approx 350-370hp?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dg8ocmpslA
There is too many ~400hp wild cat engine excamples. So can someone conclude what is truth..
I understand (when reading PH forum) that V8 developments get approx 440hp with 5.0? wild cat race engine with DD garbs and 7800rpm.. Those heads are specially made for Rob..
So how those NZ get near 100hp more?
How many horses V8 Developments/David Vizard 5.5litre race engine made? 508? Those head flow more than wild cat i understand?
600hp is quite hard to reach..
