rover v8 gems engine questions...
my rangerover 4.0 v8 idiols but sounds unstable .so i plugged fault code reader in to find my maf is faulty ive replaced it .still comes up with same fault..if it unplug it .idiols drives a lot better ..
next question which bank of the v8 is bank b ( one of the lambdas is faulty )
last question abs fault (light on dash) the reader wont read it as its stating its corrupt .yet brakes work fine (abs as well)

Hi
Bank A is odd numbers bank B is even stand at the front of the engine and the piston closest to you is piston 1
I would not drive a car witth an ABS fault, appart from anythin else the MOT would be invalid ("Vehicle not in MOT able condition") and if you had an accident and the insurance co inspected the vehicle and found an ABS fault condition they would not pay out! the ABS unit will modulate the brake pressure under hard braking even if it does not have wheel speed sensors giving the illusion of a functioning system.
Best regards
Mike

poppet valves rule!
If I rember rightly the banks is bank a passenger side and bank b drivers side could be wrong. And with regards to the maff sensor have you cleared the fault codes in the ecu other wise it might keep on coming up with the same fault code for a faulty maff if you have replaced with a brand new maff sensor then I would approach the supplier for a refund.
If its second hand that might be faulty also or you could have a wiring fault to the plug.

Well fingers crossed the maff is sorted out rule off thumb is clear the codes after every new part fitted then it give the ecu a chance to see that the faulty part has been changed.
What rpm is it ticking over at. Not sure if the 4.0 litre has a stepper motor or a idle control valve
Just thought posible that it might have a air leak on the inlet side off things blocked breather incorrectly adjusted throttle cable or the butterfly being dirty and not closing properly

Have you sealed the plenum chamber top up. Even though there face fit with no gasket it requires some sealer best way to do it is to have it running off choke normal idle and either spray wd40 all around the inlet manifold pipes air flow meter intake pipe plenum top all vacuum pipes and listen for either a raise in engine note or a drop In engine note.
What that does is rule out unmetered air entering the inlet system which colu confuses the fueling and tells it to drop the revs down.
Also if it has a coolent temp sensor fitted you could always change that as they go faulty putting too much fuel into the system. Also I would take it for a run untill or I the light comes back on and see what code comes back up if it comes up with a code for a maf sensor then I would start checking for air leaks that might have been missed.

I wouldn't mate no point going to all that work if there is no need get some easy start and spray around the manifold injectors and pipe work first. Rule it out before moving on.
I had a problem along the same lines on my 3.9 that some one had messed with something shocking turned out to be a air leak off the stepper motor housing and stepper motor housing sealed them up and sorted them out fitted a new stepper motor reset the base idle and its much better. Idle is more stable then it ever has been and pulls very very well. Doesn't hurt to recheck everything you have already done and make sure that is right first then move on just changing parts willy nilly might not cure your problem. I have spent 18 months looking for my problems and did the same thing and got very very frustrated. But perseverance sorted the problem out.

Yes pal .i bought a hawkeye fault reader and reset bcem engine adaptations .its now pefect starts from cold at 1000rpm and once up to tempture idiols drives perfect ..ur knackerd without one .not overly cheep to buy .as i offerd a service of reading clearing testing issises with the p38 .it covers .engine .tests livedata.ecu tests resets.full gearbox for gaults livedata ecu testings.bcem recoding.full abs testing .ems .body control units .airbags srs too .
