Su carbs
I am soon to rebuild a 4.6 for my 110 and am looking at changing from the solex CD175s I have on the 3.9 to a set of SU Hif44s. The motor will be pretty well stock, running a 4.2 factory cam for the dissy drive. Are these carbs going to be a success, I am looking at the new conversion kit that Burlens supply.
Cheers

thats the one, there isnt one for the 3.9 or larger as they were all injected, so will have to tune them to suit. Whether I can use the old 14cux lamda sensors that are in the front pipes I am not sure. I am guessing that the 44 is the metric measurement of the bore size, the equivalent of 1.75" the same as the HIF 6 .
Hi
The 44 is to make the later version of the SU seem "modern" it is basically a 1.75 SU with an intigrated float bowl. A pair of new A1 condition Sus are way superior to a pair of strombergs and will remain that way for a good deal longer, in sub 50K mile condition they will give economy figures as good as the Lucas injection, power will be down a little as the manifold is pretty poor compared to the later injection one.
Best regards
Mike

I think That rpi engineering sell the carbs for that engine I don't know if they re jet them. Or you could find a decent holly 4 barrel carb on eBay that would be suitable to your needs. Nether are cheap but I have seen them with the manifold as a stright bolt on job second hand
Land rover discovery 3.9 Hotwire v8 nick named Christine.
Hi
This site has them from time to time, new old stock , http://www.mod-sales.com/auction/
6 at a time, they normally go for £450 to £600 for 6. I would avoid rpi if you can.
best regards

Thanks all, yes I have seen enough of RPIs adverts to put me off them. Also I dont believe any holley is suitable for offroading or for the rover v8, even an edelbrock 500 is not the greatest, though better than the holleys. I would rather fit my CD175s than a holley they are less than 20,000ks old.
Thanks Ron, I thought you had 6s, I wasnt sure if they were the same as the 44s but I think they are pretty close.
