P6 dizzy and water pump onto an SD1 questions...

Post by Loz V8 Capri »

Hello,

Some of you may remember my previous post regarding over fuelling on my P6 V8. Skip forward 18 months and still not having been able to sort the problem so Ive bit the bullet and bought a part reconditioned SD1 V8. Feel free to check it out on ebay completed listings ITEM NO. 120971224241

It is missing certain ancillaries. The bits im confident will bolt on are my intake manilfold, alternator and starter motor. The bits im not so sure about are the dizzy, oil pump, water pump and pulley.

Dizzy - I think Im right in saying that the only difference is the drive shaft?

Oil Pump - Not sure, but I know Ive got to prime it.

Water Pump - Not a clue.

Any other stuff I need to know?

Ive seen the dizzy drive shafts on ebasy for £30. If anyone has a spare for sale please let me know.

Any information is greatly appreciated. The advice/guidance I have received on here before has been priceless.

Loz.

In the right combinations they will all fit as the blocks are the same. P6B and SD1 waterpumps have the same footprint, if used together your P6B timing cover, oil pump and distributor will all go on in exactly the same way they did on your original engine.

So maybe just changing my timing cover will be the easiest and cheapest way? Cheers for the prompt reply harvey!

I'd say that it would be. When you have the two engines side by side, just transfer over the missing parts over from the old to the new. There are minor differences but they can be overcome. The P6B has a different breather system, and that can be transferred over as well, but you'll need to do that before you fit the inlet manifold if you want to use the P6 rocker covers and their associated breathers.

hmm, so far Ive just been using a pair of edelbrock rocker covers on the p6 with the adaptor plates, I hope these will fit.
