At Last - it runs!

Post by BrenG »

Managed to get my SD1 EFi going today after not running for 18 months.

After many failed attempts I went back to basics and started again.

Set timing as per the book, battery charged, spray of easy start - it started straight away.

Car ticks over, but is lumpy when revved, bangs and pops. I presume a timing light would sort this? Lots of smoke from exhaust, and from the downpipes - I presume 18 months lying idle would make this happen.

I think a combination of incorrect ignition timing, a tired battery and plugs that kept getting fouled have thwarted my efforts to date.

Thanks to everybody who posted opinions and advice.

It's impossible to either check or set the timing accurately on a breaker less ignition set-up without a strobe timing light. Your popping and banging suggests it's miles out.

I have had it running again and it seems to have settled down - it ticks over normally and is very quiet - obviously I have had to do this to top the coolant up.

I am getting hold of a strobe so I can set the timing up accurately.
