Crank balancing in Essex...

Post by virgil »

Looking for a GOOD engine balancer in the Southend or South East Essex area for a TVR crank.

So far been told Elmsleigh Engineering...who pointed me toward Chris Applebee...who wasn't interested as it's a car crank...who pointed me toward 'some guy' in Rayleigh but no phone number or name!!

Any ideas? Want to get the TVR500 crank internalyl balanced and the Flywheel and harmonic balancer zero balanced....would rather take it in and discuss than post and hope.....

I can always send it off if needs be but seems a waste of time and money!

HELP!!!

Cheers,

Virgil

A little bit out of your way, but Bob Harmon Engineering in Watford, specialises in V8s, Or try Thurstons in Ongar, I dont think they balance themselves but will be able to point you in the right direction,

I got mine done at Real Steel.
They give you a list of everything they need from piston through to flywheel, clutch etc.
It took a few weeks.

I did get it slightly wrong because the big end shells I gave them were Clevite 77 and although they fit the the 500 rods when out of the engine, they are slightly too wide to clear the side radius of the crank journals.
So I had to use standard Rover items which are about 8 grams lighter per conrod.
As Real Steel said they balance to 0.5 grm accuracy, I was never sure if the engine could have been much smoother,

Thanks guys.

Getting it done at John Eales as my new crank is coming from that way and can be dropped off for me.
