You cannot go wrong with a shape/design 80% borrowed from the Alfa Giulia Bertone which itself would only been improved if they fitted the quad cam F1 derived V8 from the Montreal. Much like the obvious improvement that would be bestowed on the Gilbern if it had a 5.0L small block stuffed under the hood.
Trouble is the early seventies was just not a good time for big engined specialist sports cars.
The finest car the Welsh motor industry ever produced.
The Welsh motor industry produced more than one car . . I thought the invader was a one off (delorian style based on government subsidy) Tell me more, what were these cars that constituted a motor industry in Wales
Best regards
Mike
i have allways wanted a gilbern but had never seen one for sale or at a good price, allways thought the mk3 was the best, but now i prefer the mk2 as it has the chassis strengthening but fitting a v8 would require more cutting than i would have wanted to do ,as i know of a mk3 with a ford 302 in it.but it has the cortina mk3 front subframe.
having joined the owners club there are plenty of modified ones there they dont frown on modified ones , not like other clubs that only cater for origional cars, the club is superb and actively contact you about trac days and hillclimbs etc.
it has been a year of driving my car and it has been great roll on 2012.
Very nice, I have a Mk3 myself... and once the Moss has been V8'd it will be the Gilberns turn, I have already got some second hand engine mounts on a promise.
You're right about the club too, there is no frowning about mods which is a first !
very nice project good luck with the mk3 ,always wanted one never seen one in the flesh though, only know of one in my area. the gilbern club have a stand in manchester this weekend might see one there.
