LT77 oil & Quantity??

Post by Jono FD3 »

Hi guys, I know this has been discussed many times over the years, but I would like to get some suggestions.....

I know Rover changed from EP90 (IIRC?) to an ATF oil as a result of difficult gear changes when cold, and there have apparently been some issues with using ATF if the box is going to be used hard..... also seen people mention the use of Mobil 1 0w-40 fully synthetic (or synthetic of similar weight)!

basically the box is going to get a little bit of a kicking as I'm going to be drifting, mainly using 2nd & 3rd gear..... so what would you recommend and what quantity do the LT77 take, Think I read some where it was 1.5L???

Cheers
Jono

I've used both Redline MTL (but not the heavy shock version) and Castrol Syntrans

The gear change was good with both but possibly a little slow when cold with the Redline, I was not bothered by this because I always take it easy when the engine and gearbox are cold anyway.

Here's a link the the Castrol stuff....

Halfords sell the Castrol oil. (It used to be called SMX but it was recently re-branded)

I think that you need just under 2 litres of the stuff.
