Cosworth T5 Question for the brain trust

Post by 351C »

Can someone tell me the total length of the Cossy T5 tail section from the front edge of the box?

I found a pic: http://www.rscosworthbreakers.co.uk/web ... Small).jpg

I need the measurement then from front to rear of box excluding the bellhousing?

Am I correct in that this version of the T5 has the longest tail section?

Thanks.

David

Hi,
The length measure with a tape is 24.5"

I don't think the length of the tail sections are different but the position of the gear lever is different on say a TVR. (I believe all the output shafts are the same length and this governs the length of the tail housing. TVR have a larger dia output shaft in some boxes)
The cossy T5 has the gear lever at the most rear position.

Hi Denis,

OK, so are you also saying the cossy and TVR use the same tail housing with just the output shaft diameter being different?

Do you know if TVR also fits the shifter at the very rear end of the tail housing?

Maybe someone has a TVR box to hand and can also answer is the Chimeara/Griff T5 is exactly the same as the Cerbera? with regards tail housing and shifter location.

Thanks again.

I don't think TVR have a version with the gear lever at the very rear.
I think this is unique to the cossy.
Compared to a cossy the engines in a TVR will be further back and hence the gear lever will need to be further forward. I've seen TVR's with the gearlever at the front of the tail housing and mid way in the tail housing and also with external linkages to site the lever away from the gearchange opening on the tailhousing.
I doubt the Cerbera is the same as the Griff as it has the AJp engine with the starter on top of the bell housing.
The Speed 6 engine would need a different lever position also.

As Ian says, there are soooo many combinations.

Hi Guys,

OK, in that case I think I need a cossie tail section.

I believe there are internal parts which are different to my unit which is a rebuilt Mustang box.

I think it best I ask Gearbox Man to carry out this work.

I need to find me a cossie tail section for starters.

Thanks.

Just read posts .. My TVR T5 and bell housing is off the car at the moment. All off a TVR Griffith 500. Does this help?

Hi Richard,

thanks for the post.

I have the same housing by the look of it.

I think I need a RWD Cosworth T5 tail section.

I'll try and find a picture of one and ask for measurements.

Thanks again.

Hi again.
As said before the output shaft diameter may be a different diameter, so if it is, then a cossie tail housing will have a different sleeve bush in it. I'm not sure if the bush o/d is the same so swapping may not work without machining the cossie housing.

I briefly spoke with Gearboxman some while back and I think this was mentioned.

He can carry out the modification and or machining if need be but first I just wish to confirm measurements and if there are different length tail sections rather than just different shifter locations.

Thanks again.
