Another update just incase anyone is still interested!
(I think I must be a total PITA customer for the poor blokes that I've been in contact with!)
Anyway, I was 100% at the point of going down the T5 option, it did mean that I needed a new bellhousing, gearlever, slave cylinder and propshaft all of which were bound to cause some sort of issues!
I spoke to JE Developments about the bellhousing (That's where everyone gets them from), it turns out that JE do a strong close ratio gear set that Ashcroft Transmissions can fit into my R380! The total cost of the R380 route is slightly less than the T5 route but not by much. The T5 route has the advantage of being able to sell my R380 (To someone with a van!) as well as being able to sell my bellhousing.
The first gear of the JE gear set is 2.47:1 and top gear is 0.87:1 which suits me very well.
JE have 10 of these close ratio gear sets out in use, one in a racing Morgan, the gearbox was stripped after 2 seasons racing and was found to be very good condition, another one is in a TR8 rally car.
I also spoke to TM Transmissions who I bought the R380 from but the guy was useless.
In conclusion I'd like to say that 'Gearboxman' have been very helpful, JE Developemnts have been helpful (assuming that everything goes to plan, I won't know for 5 weeks because a new batch of gears are being made up at the moment and that's the lead time). Finally in my humble opinion TM Transmissions are a useless bunch of F-wits!

Thanks for the link.
The problem with Ashcroft is that they don't seem to know their arse from their elbow! (At least in terms of customer service)
I phoned them about their close ratio gears, they said that they were for a 4x4. After dealing with JE Developments he said that he has developed a close ratio gear set, he has sold 10 sets and Ashcroft have fitted them into the gearboxes. I then phoned Ashcrofts, the woman that answered the phone did not know anything about this! (And they would charge 500 quid to carry out the work)
I then spoke to JE again again who said that Ashcroft will do the work for about 200 quid!
Also whether Ashcrofts gear set is for a 4x4 or a two wheel drive box is anybodies guess, it depends on who answers the phone and on the wind direction!
I'm now waiting for JE to get the gears in and then for him to contact me, I did also ask him to email me all the ratios, which he has not done...
Who would have thought that a gearbox could cause so much agro!
Cheers,
Pete
