Bottom Pulley

Post by plastic orange »

I've just fitted a 3.9 engine in my Minor to replace the P6 one damaged a few months ago. I fitted an SD1 front timing cover to replace the Range Rover version, and am using a P6 water pump. When i came to fit the Range Rover bottom pulley - nothing lines up. My question is - can I just refit my P6 pulley to the 3.9, or do i need to use the externally balanced component from the Range Rover - or an almagamation of the 2.

cheers

Pete

Technically you need to use the external balance although I know 3.9s that aren't. If I remember right the extra weight is on the inside pressed pulley which should fit onto the P6 damper/pulley. There is a pin to line up the pulleys, just make sure it puts the weight in the right place relative to the crank key. Only other balanced option is to get the crank properly internally balanced which you probably don't want to do.

Tried to make 1 out of the 2 I have, but it's a no go, so I'll just have to live with a slightly out of balance engine.
