it will work, but I would seriously think about throttle bodies, even just for the reason TBs stay in tune, so you dont need to get them set up every year,

Ian,

I'd love to go to throttle bodies but then I won't get to do the classic events I like. I've got to stay with carbs and distributor otherwise I'm out. Fecking FIVA think I'm too modified already but luckily some organisers like to see something different on track. So for next season (assuming the dog's insurance comes through) will be 45DCOES on an XRAM fanimold like this

and try the Maxfire from Mallory. This is a distributor but the advance curve can be programmed from software and has in-built CD ignition. So it 'looks' like a distributor :D

The first all electronic distributor with a built-in CD ignition!
Combines all of the features of a modern digital capacitive discharge ignition with a state-of-the-art electronic advance distributor
Multi-Strike CD features:
- Digital processing for maximum timing accuracy
- The latest hi tech surface mount technology
- Fires multiple sparks for 20+ degrees at low engine speeds for better throttle response, quicker acceleration and cleaner burning plugs
Full electronic timing control - both RPM and vacuum based
- There are 7 preprogrammed custom advance curves or design your own using free windows based software
- The Vacuum Advance comes preprogrammed for high performance use or it can be custom curved using the design software included
- The 3 BAR Map Sensor allows for fully adjustable boost proportional retard and can handle up to 30 pounds of boost
Single stage rev limiting, easy to adjust either inside the distributor or with the software - no chips required

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Ian
I think 45s would be smaller than ideal for your engine, 48s would be better. Set up right they should work well though and they should be good for low end torque. Also the metering is heaps better than with a four barrel. Should sound nice.
Best regards

Not on SBC but one of mine friend had a RV8 4.0 race engine with quad 48 IDF and M248 cam advanced of 4°.
In a MGB, the car was really streetable in town and buzz up 8000RPM during race :D

Thanks Wotland and Mike,

I need more streetability and better sparks so this combo should help (I hope).

Ian, why do fixed jet and venturi carbs go out of tune?

Cheers,
