What's this squeek ?
Squeek coming from the top end of engine, rebuilt 800 miles ago, pistons, mains, big ends. New cam Crower 50229, rhodes lifters. New rocker shafts and rocker arms. Block was decked 10 thou, heads skimmed 30 thou and composite head gaskets fitted. running 20/50 oil with good pressure now.!
Just as it comes back to idle you can hear it, it's fitted with an autobox too.

So thats where it went !
Besides the squeek, I thing your fan belt is making noise. Spray on some belt stuff to quieten it so that the main squeek can be distingished from other noises. A short quick spray of wd40 will quieten it also.
I note the aluminium pulley. These tend to coat the belt with ali rubbings and make the belt slip and become noisey.

Belt spray !
I'll have too see if we have any in work, listening to it again it seems like a dry squeek ? how are the tops of the pushrods lubricated ?
So thats where it went !
Re: Belt spray !
There is a hole in the cup of the rocker which feeds oil from the rocker shaft to the ball of the pushrod.JSF55 wrote:I'll have too see if we have any in work, listening to it again it seems like a dry squeek ? how are the tops of the pushrods lubricated ?
A process of elimination is required. If you have power steering, remove that belt, start engine and listen. If still there, remove the belt turning your water pump and start engine again. If the noise is gone, then it is either the belt or the water pump or the alternator bearings.

Thanks
In work next couple of days, so will drop the belt off and try it again too see if i can capture the sound, would a turned camshaft bearing give any indication, noise or oil pressure?

Once you have made the belt quiet the squeek location will become more defined.
A quick fix on the belt is to spray a quick flash of wd40 on it whilst the engine is running. You will be amazed at the result.
The squeek could be a rocker. You say you fitted new rockers and shafts.
If you fitted the steel type rockers, then some types on the market are way loose on a standard rocker shaft and tend to rock in 2 directions. The load on the rocker shaft is then uneven and the oil will be forced to one side of the bearing area leaving the other side dryer.
Another possibility is the pushrods. Did you fit heavy duty or adjustable types? If so the diameter is greater and you may have one rubbing on the guide hole in the heads.

I'm more thinking it's down the bottom end ? maybe even the trans, zf4 hp22 ? only there once warm, it starts from about 39 seconds in, any pointers welcome, fan belt dropped off so it's not the pump or alternator

your squeak
Hi I have had an annoying squeak when warm sounding like a squealing bearing.
Took rockers off after reading about wear and push rods rubbing head.
Today I found the problem took breather cap off noise stopped replaced and it started. This is since fitting 500 carb Its caused by pressure build up in crankcase I blocked carb inlet and ran with breathe pipe open to air , ran perfect but got mist fumes from hose. I only have the breather on one rocker cover with pcv Im going to fit amnother breather the other side to see if this will sort out.
At least its not mechanical
