175 CD2 carbs

175 CD2 carbs
Been rumaging, as you do, and found a pair of carbs still attached to a R0ver V8 manifold. On the top it says 175 CD2. Are these different or better than the stomberg 175's that I have? It's amazing what you find when you look through old boxes of "junk" that you have lying around.
Is it a Land Rover 90 or 110? I think they had an intake like that.RoverP6B wrote:Hello Marc,

Have to say I though, I have never seen elbows like those before or an arrangement the likes of which they attach to.

101 FC I am pretty sure, the loverly piece of fabricated steel plumbing is a dead give away.
Whip the carbs off and have a look inside the opening to the manifold, there may be 2 discs with 4 or5, 1/4" holes in them, pull the discs out and you have an instant 15 to 20 extra bhp.
Just had a look at some of the other photos, yup it's a 101 FC engine, exhaust manifolds and extension on the rocker cover oil filter are a dead give away.

Can't see any discs in/on the inlet manifold, someone could have done it previously. No idea if the exhaust manifolds came with that engine, but the rocker covers did. Using those manifolds as they point the exhaust in the right direction so I don't have to cut loads of body work out and as it's fibreglass thats a good thing.kiwicar wrote:101 FC I am pretty sure, the loverly piece of fabricated steel plumbing is a dead give away.

The dip stick is the same as the one on the 101 fc engine I had, the unpainted exhaust is also the same, I'll grant you the other side has been replaced with something other than that horrible up and over log thing that passes for one of the exhaust manifolds. . . and it is not green! but I still recon the magority of that engine is 101fc.

Yup,
but 9.75 compression is better than the 8.25 on a 101FC, it may have SD1 heads (be worth a look anyway). The strombergs and manifold are good for sensible BHP levels, bit tricky to get needles for but kept fairly standard it will be ok. Good place to start anyway.

Putting gas flowed 3.9 heads on. Also got an ex military with 8.13:1 comp which will eventually have 4.6 heads on and twin turbos.kiwicar wrote:"A complete bitsa then"

As the owner of a very original 101, those exhaust manifolds are definitely not from a 101 - the unpainted one is similar, but the outlet port doesn't extend far enough back. However, the dipstick and oil filler do look very familiar.
The inlet ducting and elbows are from a 101, and were unique to that vehicle.
