Time for an update:

Axle sat waiting for final setup
Image

2nd pic of axle
Image

top fixing brace.
Image

sat in position.
Image

start of the top rose joint links.
Image

second pic of top rose joint link, had to be at this angle to clear every thing, plus didnt want to start cutting into the shell,
Image

we decided to try something different, due to mot laws changing soon we didnt want to risk the 4 link set up just yet,
so to eliminate any twist on the U bolts we went for a solid billet base plate and 4x 12.9 grade allen bolts holding it to gether hope fully stopping any axle twist on the springs now,

its all painted now ready for fitting next weekend (16-17/04/2011) :D

Nearly assembled,

You're still using leaf springs and an additional upper link ?

Will the upper link not tend to make the axle rotate as it rises up/down ?

The weekend just gone saw the final instalment of the axle post,
it final saw place under the rear of the capri, and while we were at it dropped the car another inch

Image
axle bolted in place onto the springs, and shocks bolted up.

Image
New calipers fitted on the rear along with my cross drilled vented discs.(old seized caliper to the left)

Image
Had to see what them loverly Strange shafts would look like through the wheels centers

Image
Now sat on all 4 wheels and i think the ride height is spot on now.

Road test was good, the LSD is quite aggressive when it kicks in, but something im going to get use too,
the rose joints generate lots of cabin noise, also going to have to live with this, cant have every thing road or race had to sacrifice some comforts for the race track,
best thing i have done for the car in ages doing the axle conversion,

we supported the body on stands mate and lowered and lifted the axle to check and it seems to be fine at the moment mate,

The capri usually has an anti roll bar bolted to the top of the axle in a similar place.

Anti roll bar would have double links though. Rarely fixed on a single link, so no twisting like that can occur.

Again if overall axle travel isnt that much, and the link is placed fairly horizontal then there shouldnt be much twist. The longer the link the less twist again.

Same with a panhard rod. No matter what, it will always cause some side-side movement. Although generally it is quite small.

I think on mine it's only about 4-5mm sideways movement over the entire axle travel.

the anti roll bar was bolted to the top of the axle, and went to the same point the top link arm now does with a single rubber bush, same on the other side,

Weird. They must just allow the rubber to take up the movement. Normally all ARB's have a drop link of some description.

And never use rose jointed drop links. If you think your RJ upper links are bad, you should hear a RJ drop link on an ARB !!!!

I actually disconnected the ARB I fitted at teh back. You'd think the chassis was falling apart the noise it made.

"Now sat on all 4 wheels and i think the ride height is spot on now. "

Tony,
its a capi, it should be jacked up about a foot in the air at the back and have a white stripe from the back of the roof down to the belt line then forward just below the windows, don't you know about tradition!
Looks nice though
Best regards

right removed the top rose joint arms today and the vibration/noise stopped, so now im happy they can go back on,

BUT we noticed today they is a lot of back lash on the diff, you can twist the prop and make it clunk,
any one know the correct pinion back lash for the 8.8 before i ring up ARRC and moan and make myself look a twat if im wrong

The lash measurement is still fairly small. It's just the gears are bloody massive. There will be a noticable turn at the input flange before the teeth hit.
