My SD1 stage rally car............
Hi all, be around on here for a while, sourcing engine parts etc, but not posted all that much, so I thought I would share my project..........
1985 Rover SD1 Vitesse, bought as a standard road car, roof replaced with a non-sunroof skin, full multi-point welded in cage, 6 linked rear end to my own design witha 4HA axle using a plate LSD and 4.57 CWP, Bilstien suspension front and rear and last but by no means least, the RV8 up front. I did start a thread about building an engine, and mine will have to stay at 3528cc, and cannot be forced induction, but hoping for somewhere in the region of 300bhp
The jury is out on which 'box I intend to use, but I want something straight cut with dog engagement, preferably with 6 cogs, but budget will be the limiting factor on that, anyway, time for some pics,........
As she was when I bought her...
The heart before it was torn out...
That's gotta go....
Sometimes I can be quite "Roofless!"...i'll get me coat.....
Totally stripped........
"Works" type fillers replicated.....
Initial cage installed..........
Tied to "A" pillars........
Added a few bits to the cage myself..........
Proper roof skin on......
I then painted the inside, underside and engine bay...........
Only to decide I wanted to chop the shell about again, to replicate the works cars......
Made an X-brace to strengthen the rear.........
I intend to use twin dampers........
Four linking the rear...........
Offered the axle up..........
Not bad for a lot of guess work!...........
Not enough room for the axle, so yet more chopping required.....
Trial fitting a makeshift watts linkage.........
Filled in.........
And that is where we are at at the min, watch this space, next on the agenda are dipping and painting.

Thanks for the kind words fellas....................
A quick update from the extended weekend, got plenty done, including having a bit of a move around so I can get at her a bit better, and make a start on her sister (spare shell)..............
I used the crane lorry from work, and used the oppertunity, whilst I could get properly underneath, to take some pics.............
Axle now connected with all the link bars (not bolted or spaced up yet)............
Twin dampers again, however, I only have two at the minute, so to attach the axle, I have used one each side.........
Some underside pics, as you can see, next job is to fabricate the watts bars...............
This pic gives an idea of how I have tied the strengthening plate to the shell............
Fully floating car!
Finally, erm...........I was gonna say beauty and the beast, but neither are particularly beautiful at this moment in time!

Just a quick update for now fellas, I am still cracking on with this project, but not much time for all this computer malarkey.
So, managed to get a few hours today, finally managed to get the carbs and manifolds on to check for under bonnet clearance, and to check the TVR manifolds, which didn't go as planned, more on that in a bit.
Anyway, pics...............
I must admit to doing a little sex wee when I saw them on there...............
Bonnet on.............
Here are the TVR manifolds that I bought, trail fitted, and a few things are wrong, firstly, the guy I bought them from reckoned that they had been de-catted, but he didn't mention that they had also changed the angle of the flanges, and lengthened them to, so.........
As you can see, they are too long and intrude into where the radiator would be........
And really, the flanges should be vertical, so that the "Y" piece fits, these aren't..............
So i will scrap that idea and get Tony Law to make me some bespoke ones when the time comes..........
So, while I was at i made some lightweight bumper brackets, that are massively lighter than the standard items..................
And the bumper fits, bonus!...............

Hi,
Love the project, sd1 vitesse was one of my school boy dream cars, so I'm loving it....
Just a quick note on the exhaust manifolds..... I believe that the 80's touring cars with 300+ bhp use ported standard cast manifolds.... just a thought....
Great fabrication work, going to be cool when its finished....
Steve.

400bhp S50B32, 5.13 rear diff, Bilstien suspension etc, etc. I absolutely loved the car but had to sell her to fund my house project.
