Best coil for Rover v8

Post by kokkolanpoika »

Hi again..

I´m thinkink to upgrade my ignition coil..
Can some one give me some advice/good experience to choose good coil?
My car has got programmable fuel and ignition system is std/original 35DM8.. But thinkink to change better coil? I´m thinkin to buy MSD Blaster 2 coil, or is the Bosch Blue coil better?
I think MSD blaster gives 45 000Volts and bosch gives ????? volts?
And std coil gives 15 000volts???

Any ideas?

The standard coil must give more than 15kV. You need around 25kV to jump a 0.6mm gap with 10:1 compression.

You need to be careful about upping the voltage too much because you end up with all sorts of flash over problems within the dizzy itself.

Also some of the after market rotor arms will breakdown (in terms of insulation) even with a standard coil especially if the tip of the rotor does not line up too well with the dizzy HT posts at the point of firing a plug.

Pete

I have used the Blaster 2 coil for a couple of years now. First with a Lumenition Optronic on the old dissy, and now with a Mallory dissy and Mallory 6AL CD system. The coil made a good difference on the first set up, but with the latest stuff it has really come into its own. The Mallory dissy and ignition module is the mutts nuts mate.
