Engine timing

Post by RiktheLogger »

Hi All.

Well on the way with the stripdown of my project Rover V8. Just a quick question, Im not at this point yet!

When I come to rebuild the lump, how difficult will it be to get it timed up again (in principle)? Do I need to take any measures during stripdown to make things easier during rebuild?

Thanks all,
Rik

the simple answer is no, you dont need measurements, and when you have all the bits and you are ready to rebuild, we will guide you thru step by step, It will take all of a minute to explain, its that simple

hi added to this post,as cannot post new posts(debug etc) but is on the same subject
Ihad a very sweet ,very quiet, rover lump. It developed rear main rope oil seal leak,so i pulled out the engine.
In the rush about 4am in the morning,on reassembly(no excuse)i fitted the timing chain, but was out by 20 degrees, there abouts.
I refitted and started,it started on the button but sounded like a bag of spanners and was missing all over the place.
In short,i found out why,(i miss read a mark on timing wheel).
I corrected the timing, and its shut up alot.but no way as quiet as once was.
If you look through my videos on you tube,
ive tried to capture the noise on video but its never easy.To the untrained ear(mine) it sounds like a bent pushrod,(ive checked and it isnt they look right).bent valve??
Ive tried to puzzle round in my head, what could have gone wrong, and really cannot see what could have damaged, but i cant see what??
Thats why i bow to you superior knowledge.
