First off I got the old girl started today, i forgot to attach the wire to the over run relay DOH! So it does run and start ok with a ballasted coil, I think its running better as well, next time out will show any kinks I guess.

The AEV is still not closing properly, the connection is ok now I think its just tempramental, but for now I have a cure, I have a pipe clamp once the engine is running...

The AFM is now mounted on the inner wing with a short pipe to the inlet, I'll get another more upto date picture. I never had any real issues when it was used in the vertical position, it was a means to an end at the time.
Space is quite tight and I am still trying to work out how to intergrate a snorkel, it'll probably mean having the filter on the outside in the end.

Thanks for all the advice and interest though its much appreciated.

It's quite easy to drill out the rivets holding the EAV together and replace them with nuts and bolts. You can then give it a good clean. It's basically just a bi-metal strip so not much to go wrong - assuming the heater element is ok.
