HOTWIRE ON 4.6 ROVER V8 IN DISCO 1

Post by chrisbowler »

Help and advice needed. I have just finished converting a 4.6 GEMS block to HOTWIRE with 3.9 SERP front end and standard distributor. Problem I now have is it only runs on 2 cylinders ( only 2 header pipes are hot - rest are stone cold. The 2cyls running are 4 and 6.

I assume that HOTWIRE fires the injectors in 2 banks - if so is this a wiring loom problem - the whole HOTWIRE SYSTEM WAS WORKING 3 DAYS AGO WHEN IT WAS ON THE ORIGIBAL 3.9 BLOCK

Any suggestions appreciated.

Chris,

First check if the non firing cylinders have wet plugs ie fuel is being injected.

2/ check firing order of plug leads.

Have you got a nice solid earth on the engine?
Is the distributor on the right TDC cylinder 1
again plug lead order
Dry the plugs out with a blow tourch, install them hot and hit the starter, see what happens, it may clear a fouled plug or two.
Best of luck

Right - I think we have solved this problem - I changed all injectors and the fuel rail - took it off another engine. Car now runs on all 8 although could do with a bit of a tune

4.6 in a pick up Disco does go well though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many thanks for help

The chances of several injectors failing suddenly is pretty low.

I agree that injectors all failing at the same time is rare - in defence, the engine had only recently been fitted before it had to be changed for the 4.6 - so I am wondering if dirt in the fuel tank caused the injectrors to fail when they were fitted to the 3.9 engine. The 3.9 was removed because 1 cylinder lost all compression through the rings so I decided to fit the 4.6 short block but used all the 3.9 efi system.

All I know is that after swapping out the fuel rail with another set, it now works.
