Repair of Distributor, upper/lower spindle fix suggestion

Post by softdash3.9 »

Having successfully destroying on both my RRC and Vitesse distributor   , by removing the rotor arm.

I have now stripped and reassebled both distributors, the balance weights and springs, etc.

On strip down it was apparent I had damaged the plastic retaining ring that holds the upper part of the distributor inards to the main shaft.(it is located inside the mount for the rotor arm). By pulling the rotor arm up, how else are you suppose to remove them :?: :?:

Anyone know where I could get a replacement? It is like a stepped plastic washer that clips into a groove in the lower shaft.

Was considering filling it with araldite as an alternative if I cant get one, but it might lock the shaft together  .

Any suggestions would be apprecieted

If you mean the plastic clip that sits under the rotor arm then I did a modification to my dizzy in this area. I uses lock wire to hold the top half of the advance mechanism in place.

Check out this link (near the bottom of the article)

Thanks for the suggestion, ater a bit of thought and pondering, this is the solution I came up with to fix the upper part of the distributor to the lower, thought it might be of use to others

Using a use knock retaining clip/ring, I bent up the 3 prongs to enable it to pass over the spindle end.

selected a suitable M5 washer, did a trial run to ensure it worked OK, dis assembled
