4.6 Rpi engine, worth?

4.6 Rpi engine, worth?
Hi all, i know someone with a 4.6 Rpi engine for sale, and just want opinions on what its worth, it has stage 1 heads, mallory dizzy, tornado ECU, RP4 camshaft, duplex timing gear, etc etc. And has covered about 30,000 since being rebuilt. I think hes asking too much for it. Anyways, whats anyone reckon?

My first question would be "why pull a 4.6 after 30k miles after you have chucked £2-3K at RPI?" Without a very convincing explanation I think £4-500 max as I would want to inspect it and have the cash in hand for a full rebuild. As said above stripped, cleaned and sold as parts it would sell for alot more as there would be fewer questions to answer.

oh and its comes in a range rover that is 100% fooked, apparently hes just had a kid (that classic) and needs money and has no time being a farmer.. think ill go for it then if i change my mind break the engine, what sort of price do stage 1 heads fetch? they must be the only real valuable part on it..

right! got this rangie, now the decison, do i keep the 4.6, or break it and use the money to get another v8 (it makes sense in my head) what sort of price do windsors or clevelands fetch anyone? nothing special, dont mind a rebuilt, give me something to do in my spare time at uni
or even a chevy, but would also need a suitable box, dont mind manual or auto (manual by choice tho) or what is the best (i know thats an impossible question but you get my drift) engine and box for 1200 - 1500 of the queens finest... think ill start a new thread for that question actually, getting abit off topic!

Is this going in a Capri? Fitting tophat liners is all well and good, but if you're on a budget you dont really want to waste £600+ of that by fitting liners which you dont need.
Personally I'd use the 4.6, most people on here would love a 4.6 but are stuck with a 3.5 or 3.9, they are a good light engine and can make good power, any cast iron american V8 you get will be heavier and 20 years older (casting not design), why not put a little bit of nitrous in it if you want more power than a budget built RV8 can deliver? Perry will tell you about good results
If it has a good cam, good heads and good ECU which you said it has, it should make in the region of 250bhp already, I dont think you would beat that for £1200 very easily. If you know you want to end up with 400bhp NASP then go SBC/SBF, if not, stick with the Rover.

yeah its for the capri. and not sure if it has top hat liners or not, shall have a look on the build sheet when im home thursday, but yeah, think this engine is gonna be the one for now anyway. just need to buy an Sd1 flywheel, anyone? then mcleod clutch by the sounds of it.. should be a laugh

Different flywheel, lightened steel one would be nice and the McLeod clutch would be good, twin plate is not exactly elegant which I chose
You also need a 2wd spiggot bearing as the gearbox input shaft will be smaller diameter than the 4wd one, and obviously bellhousing etc, what gearbox are you planning on using? If it has a high torque cam I'd swap that out for a more revvy one for a capri as you will appreciate it's a bit different than a 2t Range Rover for the engine to lug around! (Change lifters too and keep the original ones numbered to cam lobes)
