That RPi version does look like a Saab slave on a custom base. How much are they?

www.burtonpower.com do similar stuff - if you go on their website go to "Transmission & Clutch" and then "Clutch components - hydraulic" and you can see they have a T5 version. It might be worth giving them a call to see how thick theirs is and whether it would give you the right clearance to the clutch.

I have a feeling there were 2 different bearing retainers - Ford and GM. One has a larger diameter base but I can't remember which! I bought a couple from gearboxman.co.uk and he asked me which T5 is was for because of this. I definitely had to turn mine down but only by a small amount to fit my John Eales bellhousing. Oops I've mentioned that already

If you do fit a concentric slave on a base like that (or use a different retainer) then you may need to adjust the shims on the front bearing. You can get kits from bearingkits.co.uk.

ps. This is my setup:

Well, hard to say because Chris dosen´t say price for bearing.
Hole kit, bellhousing, clutch plate and throw out bearing. 950£ + vat, maybe inc freight cahrge to Finland 60£.
I do quick calculate, plate 98£ bellhousing 275£ all prices inc vat with their ebay.. so bearings have to be around 500£

I´m not sure if he is trying to cheat me or what?

Is there any possibility that someone else ask hole kit price..? :D

Would that kit include a clutch cover too? Even if it does then it's still going to be approx £400 for the bearing+mount

If I had to do it again then if I had the skill and equipment (a decent lathe) I would get a TVR style bellhousing (like the one from RPi or V8Tuner) and make my own base/retainer to take the AP slave cylinder. With that option you have a bellhousing that could also take a standard TVR slave bearing setup if needed too.

I don't know if that's much help to you though.

Hi Jason,

If your bellhousing is the same as the one I bought (it may have changed over the years) then I needed to take about 9.5mm off the raised section where the slave sits. You have to make sure you get the recess recreated concentric to the hole for the gearbox shaft - it's the recess that keeps the slave in the right place.

After measuring everything a million times and chatting to AP I decided I needed about 5.5mm clearance between the fully retracted slave bearing and the clutch cover fingers - to allow for wear. After the bearing hits the clutch cover fingers I need another 8mm of travel to operate it properly. So, bearing that in mind, if you do get the mount for the slave machined then make sure you don't go too far or you'll risk overstroking the slave and it'll pop its seals. Max travel on my AP slave is 18mm.

The tricky bit is measuring the distance between the clutch fingers and the rear face of the block. It's easy to measure from the bellhousing face to the slave and the slave mount with a straight edge.

I tried a couple of places when looking for someone to machine mine - stressing the need for the concentric recess. In the end I went with the company who said "that'll be easy our machine will automatically find the centre of the bore". Some said they could do it but would have to do all the alignment manually.

PS. Have you seen the drawings from AP?

Mine is the CP-3859-54 I think I got it from Techcraft.

Hope that helps.
