right,
have been given some duff info,
the capri CASING is 52"
overall face to face is 57" wide,
so looks like with my offset wheels i run on the back i may get away with an 8.8 around 59" wide, (explorer) need to measure the rear end with my race wheels on to see what gap i have each side at present,

i have read that the 8.8 has different length half shafts,
the capri dont though, is it to do with the diff offset?
and if it needs narrowing would i benefit by setting the diff up same as the cappa and shortening the longer side so they are both the same length?

may get told im being silly just thinking aloud,

My 8.8" has both shafts same length ( as it also did from the factory ). I guess it will depend on the application and how the centre housing sits in the axle.
Maybe some 4x4 applications have it offset. Although I highly doubt a rear axle on any car would be like that. I'd expect them all to be central.

If you are getting shafts, I wouldnt worry about it though.

Just cut the axle tubes and position the centre housing where you want it in the car, and weld em back together again and source shafts that will work.

At the end of the day, you'll still have an axle to work with.

Or maybe a housing that has the pinion off centre might work for you ?

yeah true,
waiting on the guy getting back to me, want to make sure its a pucker explorer axle, with lsd,
asked for the ident tag infso on the axle so can check myself, but heard nowt yet,
if its what im after then i may go ahead and get it, then work out if we need to change anything,
failing that will keep eye out for another axle with the 28spline diff and still get your parts off you,

To use my parts, all you need is an empty casing.

Obviously if you can get a setup with both 31 spline shafts and an LSD that you can use, that would be a bonus.

But really the main priority is to get a casing to start with.
