T5 bellhousing

Post by kokkolanpoika »

Hi.

I´m buying ford motorsport M-7003-Z T5 gearbox to my rover. So need bellhousing and clutch plate and release bearing.

I ask bellhousing + centronics release bearing assembly + clutch plate to RPI Chris say 950£ + vat
I understand their ebay that bellhousing is 275inc vat + clutch plate 98£inc vat. + Centronics release bearing assembly in their magazine article (2008year)225+vat. So how to he..ll he can say 950£+vat?
I say to Chris that their comepetitor John Eales is selling bellhousing/centronics release bearing assembly to 420+vat ~500inc vat. Chris answer: We do not have competitors.. And we sell complete kit that we use ourself. so thats we are not cheapest. So he is trying to be the best RV8 shop.

Is there any other how sell bellhousing and centronics release bearing assembly? I look V8 tuner site but price is more than Eales..

Any ideas if V8 developments is selling?

Real Steel had the bellhousing, its different from the TVR one, as the gearbox lays over to the left in the mustang, which may be an advantage in your case having a LHD car

I presume the centronics release bearing is a concentric slave cylinder design?

Why not use the standard TVR/ Rover set up? A lot cheaper and more reliable. If a concentric slave type fails (and they do quite often!) then its an engine out job

I brought my T5 to rover bell housing from TVR supplier, was around £150+vat.

Yes the centronics release bearing is a concentric slave cylinder design.. Chris say it is centronics.. :) as ask hydraulic throw out bearing, he dosent understand..
Can you tell me your TVR supplier name or web site..? And can i use std sd1 clutch work?

Can I just ask what T5 gearbox you need to fit to a RV8?
Ive been quoted £600 plus vat for te gearbox and bell houseing, is that good? If not then what do I actually need to look for?

I only need T5 to rover v8 bellhousing and centronics release bearing system. Or mechanical inc bearing carrier + etc what i need to fit T5.

I can get brand new Tremec T5 (ford motorsport m-7003-z) box to 1088£inc vat and freight charge to my home. So 2nd hand dosen´t intrest.. Because they usually need rebuild and freight charge to box and bellhousing to Finland is quite expensive.. Also TVR tailhousing/gear stick position dosen fit as good as Ford Mustang box so need to buy new/2nd hand tailhousing. So cheaper to buy new box. :)

like this. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-7003-Z/ 1088£inc vat in Finland.. :D Lot of cheaper than V8 tuner boxes..

I ended up with a Sierra Cosworth T5 + John Eales bell housing. I had problems with the concentric slave from JE so I swapped it for an AP Racing version. But this meant a bit of machining to of the bellhousing to get the right clearance. The concentric slave that JE provides is from a Saab 9000 and the AP is a 'direct' (i.e. almost) replacement but much better.

As you are going to ship from overseas anyway, have you thought of trying:
http://www.aluminumv8.com/index.htm

There's a problem with their website navigation so if it helps, the bellhousing page is:
http://www.aluminumv8.com/catalogpages/ ... ingetc.htm

They could probably supply you the whole thing - box, bellhosing, clutch slave and clutch cover/plate.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for info. What kind of proplem you have with Je centronics release bearings? Have you got a AP Racing part nro in it? I can ask it my local AP dealer in Finland..

Order to the USA. Freight charge is mutch more expensive than England, approx twice usually..? + we have to buy taxes approx +25% if we order from USA.. If we order in England, we can buy vat to straight from England 17.5% so we dont have to buy our local tax anymore..
And shipping gearbox to USA-Finland is approx 330£. i ask same price to England to Finland it is approx 150£.. :D
+ my local usa parts dealer is selling this new Tremec T5 gearbox same price as summitracing.

Hi Timo,
The clutch slave JE supplied to me was from a Saab (http://www.partsforsaabs.com/product_in ... ts_id=2510) which relies on a large sort of o-ring to seal the system against the bellhousing. I had problems with that seal leaking. Which is a real headache meaning you have to take the engine in and out all the time.
In the end I went for a CP3859-54 master cylinder from AP. It is a self contained system and does not rely on a seal at the back. This comes with a release bearing that has a 54mm fulcrum which is fine with a standard V8 clutch cover. My cover and plate part numbers are: CP2394-14 with CP2346-4. The cover came with a central plate for flat bearings but you can cut this off.
To make the AP master cylinder fit I had to get the bellhousing machined a little as the height of the AP slave fully retracted is greater than the Saab part by about 9 or 10mm. I had an engineering company mill bellhousing down and recreate the seat for the slave. The AP slave has a small ridge on the back that is used to ensure you get it all lined up - the new seat I had made has a matching recess.
When fully retracted I needed the bearing to be about 5.5mm from the fingers on the clutch cover to allow for wear. The clutch combo I have then needs about another 8mm of bearing travel to operate.
Hope that helps.

Thanks..

Sounds like lot of work.. :D

Have you got any experience of V8 tuner bellhousing/hydraulic throw out bearing?

Bearing http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=668
Bellhousing http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=657

They will look different than J Eales.. Is this any better than J Eales stuff?
as i understand Eales bellhousing is also suitable for Getrag.

Do you know if i use V8 tuner bellhousing and mechanical clutch mechanisims. Can i use std SD1 clutch fork and slipper pads? And what about clutch fork pivot pin? And i understand that only what i need to change is TVR T5 Gearbox crb carrier?

Think I paid £300 for the TVR T5 (tremec) box from a breakers and £200 for a new bell housing. You will also need a release bearing carrier which is £55ish. The rover release mech are a straight swap, so if your £600 includes the release bearing and mech then I'd say that sounds reasonable. (providing the box is a good one???)

If your replacing the rover box for the TVR version (same as the mustang I think) places the gear lever 4" further forward. I made an extension fairly easily to bring the gear lever 4" further back. The cosworth T5 has a longer tailhousing and apparently brings the gearlever out in about the right place but cosworth boxes are getting quite old now so finding a good second hand one will be hard, also the TVR T5 is stronger. So idearly a TVR T5 and a cosworth tail housing would be great BUT I was told its not a straight forward swap due to the TVR having larger dia shafts.

Hello,

That bellhousing looks like a standard TVR part. It has the section on top that the lever mechanism attaches to. If you had one of those you could use TVR clutch fork, slave etc. I'm sure I've seen them on TVR parts websites recently for around £150 (used).

The slave pictured looks like one of those that 'floats' on the input shaft. I thought about using one like that but I couldn't find enough details on measurements from the various suppliers.

I forgot another problem I had , the flange on the front bearing retainer on my Cosworth gearbox was too large for the hole on the JE bellhousing so I had to have that turned down too. And .... another thing to consider is that you will probably need to chop most of the tube off the retainer too as it's not needed and is unlikely to fit inside the slave cylinder bore either.

So ..... much easier to get a TVR version !! Unless you really really want a concentric clutch slave.

I ask 2nd hand box + bellhousing for www.douglsvalley.co.uk
575£+vat + 150£+vat for freight charge =851£inc vat ..

New box from Finland + have to order only bellhousing if use std release bearing mechanism. Total 1490£ inc vat and bellhousing and freight charge.. + new clutch plate

TVR 2nd hand box need new tailhousing (cosworth type) it will take another 80£ (ask for local cosworth guy) + if need to recon, parts approx 170£ + if cosworth guy do the job it will take another 170£. = 420£ So almost same as new box..

And new is new + also Tremec Z box will handle 30ft-lbs more than BW T5?

So 2nd hand bellhousing or new would intresting me..

When I was looking I tried to get a bellhousing from douglasvalley but they wouldn't split one from a gearbox it might be worth asking though. I can't find the TVR website that had them listed. It might also be worth trying gearboxman.co.uk - I asked them and they would have sold me just a second hand bellhousing but they didn't have any.

Need advice again..

Just receive new gearbox, and i try to fit SD1 release bearing carrier (non self centering) to gearbox front bearing retainer. To this.
http://www.thegearbox.org/catalog/item/ ... 532119.htm

So i measure this front bearing retainer tube outside dimeter, it is approx 36,5mm and sd1 release bearing carrier inside diameter is approx 33mm. cannot lathe, because bearing inside diameter is approx 38mm. :D

So is my only choice to lathe front bearing retainer tube? Inputshaft diameter 27mm

Or do anyone know if RPI hydraulic throw out bearing is saab unit? (looks like) Because my gearbox is identical with RPI unit, only difference that i have ford motorsport unit. I can made my own bearing base to suit saab unit. if i have to use throw out bearing.

Any advise what you recon?
Timo
