4.6 V8 Carbs - Help Needed

Post by 4646464646 »

Hi all,

Just put a 4.6 V8 in a Comp Safari racer but not sure what to do with the Carb side. We put 2 SU's on it from a 3.5 SD1 and it ran really very badly! No go at all.

What needs to be done to the Carbs to make it run with a 4.6 V8?

How do you set them up?

What other options are there?

Cheers!

probably best bet with carbs is get a Wever 500 and have it jetted for the 4.6. The SUs you put on will njot supply enough fuel - they were off a 3.5 after all - so would need rejetting at the least. :)

From a financial point of view i'm thinking it would be a lot cheaper to referb the SU's and not be spending £500 on a Weber.

What would I need to do the the Carbs? New needles? If so, how do i match them to the engine?

Cheers

weber 500 might be a bit of nightmare on a comp safari motor. My dakar used to cough and stumble just pulling into my road.

Theres some info on mods for the SU manifold on a 4.6 described here:

I have run both SU´s and Weber (Edelbrock 500) carb on my 4,6 and SU´s area really restricting the engine. They are only used for MoT visits. I don´t remember which needles I have but I can check. I think they were BCA´s.

EDIT: They are BCA needles.
