4x4 tax
Moderator: phpBB2 - Administrators
100% sure it will. Everytime I hear green issues being mentioned my wallet starts twitching as it generally means "we need more money so we will ram it up the motorist". Wouldn't care so much if they actually used the money for research into renewable fuels or something like that instead of trident missiles and crap.
bigger engined vehicles already pay more because they use more fuel and we know how much of that is tax. the only fair way would be to abolish road tax and put it on petrol prices. the more you drove the more you would pay. why should i pay the same or even more to do 5,000 miles a year as a company director who maybe does 30,000 a year in his range rover? thats enough ranting now im off

I agree
Put the tax on the petrol
Make the MOT a tax style disc
That way all the untaxed cars currently on the road pay their share
If you do not have a current MOT it is visible to all
It also will mean that the numerous cars appearing with Polish, Czech etc. plates with long term stayers will also pay their share
My car will probably do 2000 miles a year at max but then it's not 4x4 so hope it will slip through the net!

Re: 4x4 tax
It will only be on newly registered 4 x 4's, they will have to categorise them somehow at first registration as 4 x 4, and gas guzzling.bones wrote:hi all, how many members on here think the road tax will go up on range rovers and other big 4x4 vehicles,
I doubt if they will be after existing ones.
You can't just say any 4 x 4's, as there are plenty of small engined 4 wheel drive vehicles.

Not so sure it will just be for new cars, it wouldn't be hard at all for the DVLA to bring up all existing 4x4 cars and change the tax on them. The way its being worded is that 4x4 is unnecessary for 99% of people who own them and do the school run in them. It wont stop at 4x4, it will carry on to any large/heavy/big engined car. 4x4 at the moment is a minority group where a lot of the owners have large pockets so is an easy target. If they really wanted to legislate them off the road they would have set it at something much higher like £1000. They did the same with the new 4x4 purchase tax, cant remember what it is but its something like £50 and when your new car has just cost £30000 who is going to grumble about another £50? Its all about chipping away at what they can get without the public getting major upset and booting them out of office.
How does this look for a plan?
Step 1. Increase the road tax on all 4x4's and "gas guzzlers" and drive them off the roads.
Step 2. Increase the road tax and fuel tax on the remaining cars to make up for the shortfall in tax income due to the 4x4's and large cars
disappearing.
Net result the smaller car owners will end up paying more than they would
have done otherwise - good move by the party of the people.
Sorry for the rant and I don't even have a 4x4 but I am sooooo fed up of the motorist getting shafted. As I live in Scotland I can't even go to the pub and have a beer and a smoke to get over it cos they banned that too!!
