sd1 axle pinion removal

Post by bones »

Hi all. Been out in the sd1 and when i turn right or left there are some really nasty clonking noises from the rear and a shuddering. Could it be the torque tube going ???. Racing at retro next week so time is short. All advice welcome :( rich . Ok the torque tube is fine, took it out and no play in bearing, but how do you get oil back in it, ???, Any advice on what could be making the noise and shuddering ???

TOOK casing off and found some metal chunks and filings. The pinion has got damage to 3 or 4 teeth and when you turn the wheels it jams on them. I changed the c;w;p some time back to a 3.45 but ive still got the old one. How easy is it to do the pinion and what give should it have. Next week not looking to good. :( rich

Hi Bones,

The worse thing about removing and relacing the CWP, apart from the setting up the thing, is removing the bloody large nut that holds into the casing, 1 7/8" in size, done up tight to crush a collasible spacer ( no longer available ) Made up a tool to hold the pinion still when i stripped my TR7 axle down, whilst undoing the nut with a ring spanner. More than welcome to borrow these if you want. What part of the world are you?

Do you have all the shims and spacers from the original CWP ?

Cheers John
